Abstract
The aim of this article is to identify the Catholic movements occurring between 1926 and 1930 in several cities in the southern United States. The issue is important because its supporters staged several armed incursions into Mexico, and once they had achieved victory, they were confident of being able to establish a religious government. They were found to have acquired weapons and formed an army whose forces amounted to fewer than a hundred people. In some cases they contacted the League for the Defense of Religious Freedom and the episcopate, but on failing to obtain a positive response, they operated independently. Bishops Juan Navarrete and José de Jesús Manríquez y Zárate, exiled by the Mexican government, were involved in these movements. In the end, none of these movements were successful.
