Abstract
The book El Porvenir, periódico ministerial dirigido por José María Vigil (1874–1876) by Lilia Vieyra Sánchez examines the role of the newspaper El Porvenir as an instrument for legitimizing the government of Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada. The study places the publication within the broader context of nineteenth-century print culture and highlights its political and educational functions through its supplements El Publicista and Miscelánea Literaria Hispano-Americana. The author demonstrates how ministerial press combined law, literature, and power in the construction of the liberal state. The book offers a precise perspective on the relationship between written culture and governmental discourse, shedding light on the role of the press in the processes of institutional consolidation and the formation of an enlightened citizenry in nineteenth-century Mexico.
