Résumé

El objetivo de este artículo es analizar las primeras aproximaciones que Emory S. Bogardus, destacado sociólogo estadounidense, tuvo al estudio de la migración mexicana en Estados Unidos y las ideas que permeaban sus planteamientos. Para ello, examino su preocupación por la americanización de los inmigrantes en Estados Unidos y en qué consistía. Asimismo, estudio la visión que tenía acerca del “problema mexicano” y el origen de esta concepción. Ambos aspectos fueron los hilos conductores que determinaron su punto de vista de los inmigrantes mexicanos en Estados Unidos en esa época —década de 1910—. La relevancia de este trabajo radica en examinar la primera etapa de la trayectoria de uno de los autores que —junto con Manuel Gamio y Paul S. Taylor—, es pionero en el estudio de esta migración.
